Vietnam - Two children die from bumblebee stings

Two of the four kids in northern Quang Tri Province died on Thursday after they were stung by a swamp of bumblebees whose hive was exposed by a bulldozer.

The dead children were 11-year-old Ho Van Chung and 2-year-old Ho Van Vin, both of Huc Commune, Huong Hoa District.

On the morning of August 26, Chung, Vin and two others, Ho Van Vui, 5, and Ho Van Van, 2, were playing behind a bulldozer that was operating on a road in the commune when the vehicle exposed a beehive underground.

A large number of bees immediately rushed out and attacked the children, who were later taken to the Huong Hoa General Hospital in critical condition.

Of the four kids, Chung and Vin suffered the most with hundreds of stings, doctors said.
Despite intensive treatment and care, Vin died on August 27 morning while Chung was transferred to the Hue Central Hospital for further treatment.

Chung suffered more than 300 bee stings over his body, which damaged many organs of the boy and drove him into a deep coma, doctors said.

The boy died at 2 am Friday after five days of treatment.
